Full Pareidolia by David Greenslade

“Pareidolia, which occurs when humans perceive ‘meaning’ in random source material, is the result of our visual system’s tendency to extract patterns from ‘noise.’ Whilst scientists view this propensity as leading to all manner of error, for artists and poets an openness to its possibilities is essential. Creative practices demand an attention to the unexpected resonances of the ordinary and extraordinary stuff amongst which we live, and a willingness to interpret what we find. In David Greenslade’s collection ‘Full Pareidolia’, even a shed is so rich with resources such that Japan can be discovered there, if only one knows how to look. When eyes ‘become baited hooks’ Greenslade catches potatoes, primroses, plastic bags and pulleys, along with rainbows, wrack and rubbish.  From this miscellany he draws new patterns and meanings out of the tangled matter of everyday life.”
